The Vietnamese Holiday
I woke up and I couldn’t wait for a new holiday to come up. It wasn’t just any holiday, it was Vietnamese New Year! I celebrated Vietnamese New Year with my friends and family. It was my first one in 2009!
My parents told me to say “Happy New Year” in Vietnamese to every adult. They gave me money in very little bags. Not all of them gave me money. We played games and ate Vietnamese food. Then we popped up firecrackers. “BOOM! CRACK! BOOM!” the firecrackers went. The firecrackers were louder than two drums combined.
Then I went to Kenny’s grandma’s house. We played a chess game with a dice and some cards. When we got bored of the chess game, we played hide and seek. There wasn’t many places to hide, so that’s why we played outside. Then we played tag. I had no breath left.
Then I went to William’s house. We played games and watched TV. It wasn’t a sleepover because my parents picked me up at like 11:00.
That was the best Vietnamese New Year! It was memorable because now I understand the true meaning of Vietnamese New Year. I hope next year will be better.
