Oceans
Earth is covered with liquid water, that's what makes it so special from other planets. More than 70% of water covers the earth's surface. There is a huge amount of water in the oceans, more than 1 and 1 half quintillion. That is like 100 billion gallons of water for everyone on earth. It has stayed to that amount because water evaporates and when it rains, it goes back in the oceans.
Currents can travel all the way from Japan to North America. It changes climate too like warm Japan currents to freezing cold water in North America. Tides are caused by the gravitation of the moon. The biggest tides are called Spring Tides, that is made when the sun and moon are lined up with earth. Tides and currents can be very forceful, they can caues tsunamis which can cause many deaths and damaged property. Those are some facts about oceans! |
