September OPEN GATE Student Feature

Jazmine's response to a non-fiction story about trap-door spiders.

Trap-Door Spider

My Prediction:
I predict that this story is going to have lots of information about spiders.  I also predict that they’re going to talk about the female spider and how it makes a nest out of web and about their poison.

What I Learned:

  1. The main idea of this story is that trap-door spiders catch and eat insects.
  2. Trap-door spiders build trap-doors to catch other insects.
  3. In this story, the word springs means to jump fast.
  4. If I were to be a male trap-door spider, I would not return after visiting a female trap-door spider, because she would eat me!
  5. We don’t get to see trap-door spiders very often because they mostly spend their time underground.

My prediction was correct.  I predicted that this story was going to give me lots of information about trap-door spiders.  I learned that the female eats the male after it fertilizes her eggs.
